Vernon Dwight Sargent, 74, of Washington, died Friday, March 6, 2009, in The Washington Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1934, in Washington, a son of the late Howard R. and Marie Crile Sargent.
Mr. Sargent graduated from Washington High School in 1952. For 32 years, he worked as a repairman for Bell Telephone Company and for 27 years, was co-owner of Electronic Alarm Systems.
Mr. Sargent was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and was on the board of directors, and the Bell Pioneer Club. He enjoyed woodworking.
On March 12, 1953, he married Phyllis Ann Wiles, who survives. They would have celebrated their 56th anniversary next week.
Also surviving are a son, Vernon Dwight “Chip” (Nancy) Sargent, II, of Cranberry Township; two daughters, Rebecca A. (Charles) Brookman and Kimberly S. (Donald) Sickles, both of Washington; a brother, Kenneth Roy Sargent of LaBelle, Florida; five grandchildren, Courtney (Paul) Kukovich, Brandi (Craig) Buken, Amanda (Randy) Allen, Andrew Sickles and Ryan Sargent; and three great-granddaughters, Amelia Allen, Adelaide Allen, and Natalie Kukovich.
Deceased are a sister, Ethel Bell; and two brothers, Russell and Charles Sargent.
Friends will be received 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 9th, with Rev. John Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, 160 Jefferson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
