John Mark Sprowls Sr., 54, of Claysville, died at 6:14 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2005, in Washington Hospital from complications due to lung cancer. He had been ill since April 6, 2005.
He was born April 28, 1951, in Washington, a son of the Rev. Mary J. Chase Sprowls of Claysville and the late Rev. Harold Robert Sprowls.
Mr. Sprowls owned and operated a lawn care service.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1974, including a year in Thailand.
Mr. Sprowls was a kind and loving person who enjoyed riding horses, playing golf, photography, taking trips out West, singing and sharing a good laugh with friends and family. He never met a stranger.
He as a member of Ohio Valley Baptist Church in Triadelphia, W.Va.
On December 20, 1975, he married Lynda Bolton, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Brian and wife Joeline Sprowls of West Harrison, Ind.; a daughter, Ashley Sprowls-Hall and husband Brian of Claysville; a brother, Larry W. Sprowls and wife Susan Chess of Claysville; a sister, Susanna Sprowls-Cipolone of Claysville; nine grandchildren, Tommy, Isabelle, Victoria, Abigail, Anthony, John Mark, Christopher, John Paul and Samuel; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his father, the Rev. Harold R. "Brick" Sprowls; a son, John Mark Sprowls II; a daughter, Jamie Leigh Sprowls; a sister, Betty Ann Sprowls Plants; and a brother, Charles R. Sprowls.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in Roadside Chapel, 1869 Pleasant Grove Road, Claysville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, with the Rev. Mark Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted graveside by James R. Hunt American Legion Post 639, Claysville.
