Katherine R. Shrader, 83, of Washington, formerly of East Finley Township., died at 3:10 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2005, in Donnell House, Washington, following a four-month illness.
She was born April 5, 1922, in Washington, a daughter of Robert Alvin Jr. and Sarah Jane Patterson Deyell.
Mrs. Shrader had been a custodian and teacher's aide in McGuffey School District for 10 years.
She was a member of Old Concord Presbyterian Church.
She had been an East Finley tax collector and was on the election board in East Finley.
Mrs. Shrader enjoyed reading, roses, crafts, crossword puzzles, children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed family gatherings.
She was a 1939 Trinity High School graduate, having graduated as valedictorian of her class.
On August 1, 1939, she married Ford Lincoln Shrader, who died June 2, 1972.
Surviving are four sons, James M. Shrader and wife Arla of Scenery Hill, John N. Shrader and wife Pam of Washington, David W. Shrader and wife Elizabeth of West Finley and Randy L. Shrader and wife Amy of Washington; seven daughters, Judy Anderson and husband J.D. of East Finley, Sally Scott and husband Richard of Cameron, W.Va., Karen Puskar and husband John of Houston, Linda J. Robinson and husband Ronald of Washington, Barbara A. McAllister and husband Dennis of Washington, Donna McGee and husband Michael of Ebensburg and Dorie Jones and husband George of Washington; a niece whom she raised, Joanne Deyell of Washington; a sister, Virginia Shrader and husband Eugene of Washington; 27 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sons, Robert and Merle Shrader; a daughter, Jean Shrader; seven brothers, John N. Deyell, Patrick Lee Deyell, Robert Alvin Deyell Jr., Henry James Deyell, Leslie W. Deyell, William Deyell and Melvin Deyell; and four sisters, Mary Jane Deyell, Marlyn J. Rogers Hunter, Sarah Joyce Morris and Ethel Jean Gray.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and until 1 p.m., the time of services, Tuesday, August 30, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Jean Wright officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Herman Baptist Church Cemetery, Amity. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Donnell House.
