Wayne Paul Shannon, 57, of Washington, died October 27, 2005, in U.P.M.C., Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after an illness of several months. He was born August 24, 1948, in Canonsburg, a son of Lillie Alderson Shannon, of Washington, and the late Paul G. Shannon, of Hickory. He was a graduate of Canon McMillan High School and the University of California, California, Pa. He was a Vietnam War veteran, having served with the Marine Corps, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, with one star, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, with device, Presidential Unit Citation, Purple Heart Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Shannon was a member of Grace and Truth Church and is now “Face to Face with Jesus, his Savior.â€쳌 He was once a substitute teacher for Canon McMillan School District, was a member of 84 Fitness Center and James Perry Post 191, Veterans of Foreign War, Canonsburg. On September 26, 1981, he married the love of his life, Christine Pliska Shannon. Surviving in addition to his wife and mother, are a sister, Geraldine (Gerri) Shannon Beal, of Eighty Four; 3 nieces, Shannon Jean Beal, Morgan Pliska and Madison Pliska; Mom #2, Jeanne Alderson; several uncles, aunts, and cousins, and his “belovedâ€쳌 cat, Tess.
Friends and family will be received noon to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2005, with Pastor Scott Warne officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery, McMurray. The family suggests memorial contributions to Grace and Truth Church, c/o Pastor Scott Warne, 128 Riggle Street, Houston, PA. 15342. Military rites will be accorded by the Marine Corps League.
