James Leonard Stienstraw, Sr.

Retired Jessop Steel worker. James Leonard (Jim) Stienstraw Sr., 67, of Washington, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 8, 2005, in Washington Hospital. He was born February 12, 1938, in New Cumberland, W.Va., a son of the Rev. Jacob Stienstraw and Stella Ann Morris Stienstraw. Mr. Stienstraw earned his high school diploma while serving in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Seabees with the U.S. Navy and received an honorable discharge. For 30 years, he was employed as a millwright foreman at Jessop Steel Co., retiring in 1994. He had also been in the home remodeling business in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Mr. Stienstraw was a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church, St. Hilary Travel Club and Jessop Club. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, camping, taking casino trips, his antiques, working in his garden, hunting, fishing, cooking and crossword puzzles. Most of all, he loved and enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. On March 24, 1956, he married Dolores (Dolly) Fedor, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda and husband Dave Konitzer of Two Rivers, Wis., and Deborah D. Riley of Washington; two sons, Michael G. Stienstraw Sr. of Claysville and James L. Stienstraw Jr. and wife Kathy of Cecil Township; 10 grandchildren, David Jr. and Christopher Konitzer, Michael (Butchey) Stienstraw Jr., Jacob Stienstraw, Amy, Karen, Lyndsay and John D. Riley Jr. and Kasey and James L. Stienstraw III, all who loved their pappy and whom he loved and enjoyed very much. Also surviving are three sisters, Stella and husband Robert Boyd of Wayne, Mich., Marian Mull of Washington and Ruth and husband John Kovatch of Meadow Lands; a brother, Daniel and wife Peg Stienstraw of Washington; a sister-in-law, Theresa McCormick of Washington; two brothers-in-law, Marko and wife Barbara Velmer of South Park and Wayne and wife Rose Marie Kraeer of Avella; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Stanley, Benjamin and Robert; and a grandson, David A. Rudy. Friends will be received from 1 until 9 p.m. Tuesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday October 12, in St. Hilary Church, Washington, with the Rev. Thomas D. O'Neil as celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery, with military rites graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
