James Matthews "Jumbo" Chandler, Sr., 68, of Somerset, died Monday, August 24, 2009, in Somerset Hospital. He had been in declining health.
He was born December 30, 1940, in Washington, a son, of Edward and Dorothy Grayson Chandler.
At one time Mr. Chandler worked at L& M and B&B black top companies.
Mr. Chandler enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He managed football teams and played adult softball in his younger years and enjoyed harness racing.
Surviving are two sons, James A. Ellis, of Uniontown, and James Chandler, Jr., of Washington; five daughters, Michelle Chandler, of Washington, Anita Thornhill and Rena Welsh, both of Pittsburgh, Teah Chandler and Shellisa Chandler, both of Washington; a step daughter, Thressa Patterson; a brother, Joseph (Sonny Mae) Chandler, of Washington; twenty-six grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Also surviving is his long-time companion, Norma Welsh.
Deceased are two grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, August 29th, from 10 a.m. to noon, in Apostolic Christian Temple, 164 West Wylie Avenue, Washington. The funeral service will be held at Noon following visitation.
