Eleanor Louise VanKirk, 87, of Washington, died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, November 16, 2005, in Washington Hospital, following a six-week illness. She was born October 1, 1918, in Claysville, a daughter of John and Florence Cushing Jolley, and was raised by Carson Reed and Bernice Cushing Bane. Mrs. VanKirk graduated from Claysville High School and attended Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing. She was a homemaker, a member of First Christian Church and a former member of Sunday school class 11. Mrs. VanKirk enjoyed reading and traveling to see her daughter in Virginia. On August 30, 1941, she married Ralph Clyde VanKirk, who died September 4, 1985. Surviving are two daughters, Catherine VanKirk of Washington and Elizabeth Ann of Fairfax, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four sisters, Harriett Thomas, Alice Cooper, Lois Forsythe and Wilma Henderson.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, with the Rev. Paul Leone officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
