Western Area Vo-Tech maintenance department worker. Walter F. McCartney, 74, of Claysville, died Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in Washington Hospital, following a three-year illness. He was born September 22, 1930, in Washington, a son of Walter Cleveland and Irene Hemelrick McCartney. Mr. McCartney attended Washington High School. He was employed in the maintenance department of Western Area Vocational-Technical School for 16 years and formerly worked at Coxes Department Store. Mr. McCartney was Protestant. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. McCartney served with Company F of the 6th Armored Cavalry in Germany during the Korean War. On June 23, 1969, he married Delores Jean Dillie, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Terry Allen (Bertha) McCartney of West Alexander and Walter Raymond (Amy) McCartney of Washington; a brother, Raymond W. McCartney of Washington; two sisters, Helen (Elmer) Adrian of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Donetta Heinbaugh of Confluence; four grandchildren, Amanda Proctor, Michael Proctor, Walter Thomas McCartney and Nathan Allen McCartney; a great-grandchild, Nicholas Michael Sprowls; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Catherine Ingram. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 26, with Robert J. Davison officiating. Burial to follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
