Charles Lee Spence, 80, of Washington, died Friday, October 24, 2008, in the Washington County Health Center, following a lengthy illness.
He was born February 29, 1928, in Washington, a son of Clarence Wayne and Veronica Kerrigan Spence.
Mr. Spence attended Immaculate Conception High School. He worked as a painter for Joe Falvo Painting and Spence Painting for 30 years.
Mr. Spence was veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion and VFW 927.
On December 11, 1947, he married Janet Evelyn Mankey, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Richard Mark Spence, Frederick Wayne (Nancy) Spence, Daniel Rea (Treva) Spence and David Lee (Kathy) Spence; a daughter, Sandra Lee (Frank) Sprock, all of Washington; one brother, Dr. Thomas Spence of Arlington, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 28th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
