William D. Rumbaugh

International Paper retiree, member of Glenn Street church. William D. Rumbaugh, 85, of Washington, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington, following a lengthy illness. He was born January 5, 1920, in Washington, a son of William J. and Emma Chivers Rumbaugh. Mr. Rumbaugh was a member of Glenn Street Free Methodist Church in Washington and was active as his health permitted. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the European Theater. After 27 years of employment, he retired from International Paper Co. He moved to Pompano Beach, Fla., and accepted a position in maintenance and custodial services for First Nazarene Church. Along with his wife, Pat, he owned and operated "The Christian Way" bookstore. Mr. Rumbaugh enjoyed living in Melbourne, Fla., Illinois and Las Vegas, Nev. He was married to Dorothy Burgh, who died at a young age. He later married Patricia Renko Burgh, who survives. Also surviving are a birth daughter, Nona Jean Podschlne of Novi, Mich.; an adopted daughter, Toni Marie Gossett of Washington; two stepchildren, Keith D. Burgh of Marian, Iowa, and Cynthia Cowie of Washington; six grandchildren, Art and Andrew Holman, Amy Stewart and Currie Lynn, Lauralee and Cara Rush; four stepgrandchildren, Bre Ane Hampsher, Brenna Miller and Julie and Nate Caldwell. Deceased are a brother, James Rumbaugh; and two sisters, Alberta Wurtzer and Helen Garbart. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in Glenn Street Free Methodist Church, Washington, where a celebration of his life and death will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Randy Sands from Hillsboro, Ill., and the Rev. Robert Neal and the Rev. Brice Greco, both of Glenn Street Church, officiating. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Glenn Street Free Methodist Church, 690 Glenn Street, Washington, PA 15301, in memory of William D. Rumbaugh.
