Helen E. Biss, 91, of Canton Township, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, in the Washington Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born October 30, 1917, in Toledo, Ohio, a daughter of Ignatz and Mary Urbanik Karoleski. Mrs. Biss was a member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church and its Ladies Altar Society, and the Washington Senior Citizens Center. She was a homemaker who enjoyed crossword puzzles, attending flea markets at church and the senior center, and singing with the Polish Bard group. On September 4, 1944, she married Joseph P. Biss, who survives. They celebrated 64 years of marriage in September. Also surviving are two sons, John (Mary) Biss of North Ridgeville, Ohio, and Victor (Claudia) Biss of Eureka, Missouri; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, Daniel Matthew Biss, who died in infancy; and three brothers, Joe, Ted and Stanley Karoleski. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, November 10th, in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, with Bishop John Mack as celebrant. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, 605 Hewitt Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, or to Washington Senior Citizens Center, 69 West Maiden Street, Washington PA 15301.
