Homer Dwight Byrd, 70, of Washington, died Monday, February 11, 2008, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born June 9, 1937, in Washington, a son of Floyd Robert and Margaret Leasure Byrd.
Mr. Byrd graduated from Trinity High School in 1956, from Washington and Jefferson College in 1960, with a degree in political science, and from Duquesne Law School in 1963.
On May 3, 1964, Mr. Byrd was called into active service from the Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged with a rank of captain on November 30, 1966.
Mr. Byrd was employed by the federal government as district council with the Veterans Administration in Pittsburgh until his retirement in March 1995.
He was a member of National Rifle Association, L.O.O.M. and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
Mr. Byrd enjoyed playing pool, hunting, fishing, all outdoors activities, and going to the Indian Springs Rifle Range.
On March 18, 1966, he married Linda D. Miller, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Robert E. Byrd; two grandchildren, Robert James and Ryan Vaughn Byrd; and a nephew, Duffy McCann.
Deceased is a sister, Daphine Jean McCann.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
