Alfred L. Pinkerton, 62, of Canton Township, died unexpectedly, Monday, November 3, 2008, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born December 9, 1945, in Claysville, a son of Carl and Virginia Wilson Pinkerton.
Mr. Pinkerton was a graduate of McGuffey High School and was a member of Friendship Community Church.
Since 1974, he dedicated his life to the growth of his water company. Mr. Pinkerton was a self-made businessman whose tireless efforts, dedication, perseverance and his “24 hours per day” commitment made Al’s Water Service one of the country’s most successful water-hauling companies.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend who enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and taking them on trips and out to dinner. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time on his farms and exercising.
Mr. Pinkerton was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need.
On August 11, 1990, he married Sandra Shelbaugh, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jeffrey A. (Lori) Pinkerton of Washington; a daughter, Debra Miller of Butler; a stepdaughter, Kara Brigich of Charleston, South Carolina; two brothers, Carl H. (Janet) Pinkerton of Washington and James T. Pinkerton of Avella; two sisters, Edna M. (Donald) Boyd of Scenery Hill, and Ellen Pinkerton of Washington; six grandchildren including Amber and Jessie Pinkerton, Ian, Christina and Dillon Miller.
Friends will be received 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, Friday, November 7th, in Friendship Community Church, with Rev. Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
