William Johnson Flynn, 82, of Washington, died Sunday, February 10, 2008, in Washington Hospital, after having been ill the past five years.
He was born March 26, 1925, in Canonsburg, a son of Cecil Burns and Metta Naomi Johnson Flynn.
Mr. Flynn was a January 1943 graduate of Washington High School and a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He later served in the U.S. Army.
For 35 years, Mr. Flynn worked as a grocery manager for A&P Markets. He later became a licensed Realtor and spent 15 years working for several local brokers.
He was a very active member of Church of the Covenant, having served as a trustee, elder and deacon and was a soloist in the choir.
Mr. Flynn also sang in many other groups, including Washington Community Theater and Syria Chanters.
He was a member of Sunset Lodge 623 of Washington.
On June 3, 1956, he married Peg Cole, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Shawn Owen (Diane) Flynn of Canonsburg; two daughters, Colleen (Steven) Molinaro of Washington and Carolyn (Richard) Marengere of South Gate, Mich.; and four grandchildren, J.D. Fine and Stephanie, Rachel and Natalie Marengere.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 1 to 4 and 6 to 7 p.m., the time of services, Tuesday, February 12, in Church of the Covenant, East Beau Street, Washington. Burial will be private at a later date in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
