Richard J. Jankoski, 81, of Washington, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care.
He was born April 24, 1927, in Canonsburg, a son of Walter and Cecelia Kosiorek Jankoski.
During World War II, Mr. Jankoski served in the Army from June 22, 1945, until his honorable discharge on November 7, 1946, with a rank of corporal. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal for his service.
For 20 years, he was employed as a supervisor at RCA and also worked 15 years at Sears in the Lawn and Garden Department.
Mr. Jankoski was a member of First Lutheran Church and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and all sports.
On July 3, 1949, he married Mardelle Walter, who survives.
Also surviving are two sisters, Dolores Baime of Carnegie and Virginia McNary of Mississippi; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Bernard Jankoski; and two sisters, Pearl Apicella and Helen Bell.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held Friday, October 10th, from 10 till 11 a.m., the hour of service, in First Lutheran Church, North Franklin and West Walnut Streets, Washington, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Schott officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
