Lauretta Leona Pettit, 70, of Houston, died Sunday, August 31, 2008, in the Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born November 9, 1937, in Washington, a daughter of Silas and Bessie Bails Yater.
Mrs. Pettit was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards and listening to country music.
During her youth, she attended Calvary Temple, and prior to her marriage, she worked in the kitchen at Washington Hospital.
On September 1, 1956, she married Charles F. Pettit, Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Charles F. Pettit, Jr. of Avella and Larry Pettit of Fairmont, West Virginia; two daughters, Betty (Michael) Ice of Fairmont, West Virginia and Freda (Gary) Flickner of Houston, with whom she made her home; ten grandchildren, Michael, Linda, Mickey, Gary, Betty, Lauretta, Randy, Justin, Rachael and Larry; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Deceased are a great-grandchild, Robert Leroy Pettit; eight brothers, Melvin, Clarence, Clyde, John, Robert, Earl, Paul, and Charles Yater; and four sisters, Hannah Hartzog, Marie Gray, Esther Hartzog and Frieda Tulock.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 5th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be made to the William G. Neal Funeral home, to be paid towards the funeral bill.
