Cook for county health center and area restaurants. Alice L. Crawford, 89, of Avella, formerly of Washington, died Friday, July 15, 2005, in Donnell House, Washington, following a lengthy illness. She was born August 1, 1915, in Washington, a daughter of William and Mary Ann Long Smith. Mrs. Crawford was Protestant. She was a cook at Washington County Health Center, White Front and several other area restaurants. In September 1948, she married Joseph Willis Crawford Sr., who died June 24, 1982. Surviving are a son, Jay R. (Mary) Crawford of Eldersville; three daughters, Betty Lou (Henry) Wagers of Washington, Shirley Ann (Jack) Cole of Salem, Mo., and Florene St. Clair of Washington; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Joseph Willis Crawford II; a daughter, Margaret Louise Pettit; two brothers, William and Raymond Smith; and a sister, Emma Jane Smith. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m., the time of service, Monday, July 18, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will be held in Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg.
