John Edwin Grice Jr., 80, of Washington, died Monday, February 21, 2005, in Beverly Health Care, Waynesburg, following a lengthy illness. He was born December 1, 1924, in Philadelphia, a son of John Edwin and Margaret Henrici Grice Sr. Mr. Grice was a 1943 graduate of Washington High School, received his undergraduate degree from University of Pittsburgh and, in 1953, received a master's degree from University of Pittsburgh. He owned Grice's Chocolates. He had been employed as a research associate at University of Pittsburgh and formerly worked for the state Department of Public Health in data processing and research. Mr. Grice enjoyed reading and his family. During World War II, he was a corporal with the 18th Weather Squadron of the U.S. Army Air Forces and served in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. Mr. Grice earned the World War II Victory Medal with three bronze stars. On November 22, 1951, he married Doris G. Clark, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, John E. (Judy) Grice III of Washington, Bruce C. (Becky) Grice of Washington and Todd A. (Jane) Grice of Columbia; three daughters, Doris Kathleen (Bill) Colborn of Verona, Cynthia J. (Smittie) Brown of Grantville and Peggy (Ken) Kammerer of Bel-Air, Md.; a sister, Milicent Johnson of Washington; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Deceased is a brother, Donald Grice.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 25.
