Josephine Z. Popeck, 92, of Washington, died Monday, February 4, 2008, in Humbert Lane Personal Care Home.
She was born February 25, 1915, in Wyano, a daughter of John and Honoratta Osika Zastawniak.
Mrs. Popeck was a homemaker and member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church. At one time, she worked the meat counter at Peppino’s on Wylie Avenue.
She enjoyed crocheting, Pirates baseball, bingo, and spending time with her grandchildren.
In 1934, she married Charles Popeck, who died December 20, 1948.
Surviving are son, Edward Charles (Jane D.) Popeck, of Washington; a step-daughter, Charlotte Haught, of Washington; one brother, Alphonse Zastawniak of Greensburg; four grandchildren, Edward R. (Amy) Popeck, John C. Popeck, Robert D. (Margaret) Popeck, and Richard D. (Fran) Popeck; two great-grandchildren, Allyson and Erin Popeck; three step-grandchildren, Gilbert Haught, Rhonda Leech and Sharon McQuay; three step great-grandchildren, Marissa Leech, Adam Leech and Matthew Haught; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three sisters, Helen Wojtaszek, Rose Zastawniak and Catherine Popeck.
Friends will be received 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, in St. Hilary Church, with Father Thomas D. O’Neil officiating. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Washington.
