Edith Grimes Loughman, 94, of Washington, died at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2005, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington, following a three-month illness. She was born June 19, 1910, in Holbrook, Greene County, a daughter of Joseph Cephas and Mary Weaver Grimes. Mrs. Loughman was a school teacher for Peters Township School District. She attended Church of the Covenant, was a member of the women's circle of the church and Pennsylvania State Education Association and enjoyed reading and crocheting. Mrs. Loughman graduated from Center Township High School and from California Normal. On June 7, 1936, she married J. Irvin Loughman, who died October 27, 1973. Surviving are a son, John (Andrea) Loughman and two daughters, Mary Kelley and Ruth Ann Loughman, all of Washington; four grandchildren, Donna Loughman and Lorelei, Edward and Michael Kelley; and five great-grandchildren, Amanda, Ethan, Devin, Michael Jr. and Logan Kelley. Deceased are three brothers, George, Robert and Earl Grimes; and two sisters, Mabel McCullough and Marjorie Arnold.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Ben Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Church of the Covenant, 267 East Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301.
