Mary Cooley Twardon, 77, of Washington, died on Monday, February 16, 2004 in the Washington Hospital following a short illness. She was born in Moundsville, West Virginia, on November 26, 1926, a daughter of William James and Bessie Jane Plues Cooley. Mrs. Twardon was a home maker and a member of the Church of the Covenant. She also belonged to the Ukrainian National Association. She enjoyed watching local sports, gardening, working jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles.
On April 21, 1944, she married Michael Twardon, Jr., who died on March 8, 1996. Surviving are a son, Michael Patrick Twardon of Barberton, Ohio; a daughter, Sherri Ann Romano of Washington; two brothers, Charles E. Cooley of Concord, California and Walter J. Cooley of Detroit, Michigan; two sisters, Clarisa Zibrida of Port View, Pennsylvania and Dorothy Meredith of St. Petersburg, Florida; four grandchildren, Lori and Michael Shawn Twardon, Michael Paul and Mark Romano; as well as two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Twardon is preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Bosnick, Margaret Marchand, Ethel M. Sellers, and Salinda Nicholson; a brother, Edward Cooley.
Friends of Mary Cooley Twardon, 77, will be received from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Wednesday in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2004, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Thomas Hamilton officiating.
