William Reinhardt Stemple, Sr., 79, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was born July 21, 1928, in Southview, a son of Thomas Harold and Frances Moreland Stemple.
During World War II, Mr. Stemple served in the United States Army in the European Theater, where he earned the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged October 11, 1948. On March 24, 1950, he re-inlisted in the Army and served in Germany, where he earned the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on April 11, 1953, as a sergeant first class.
Mr. Stemple worked as a foreman at Canon Plastics and had owned and operated the Muse Café.
He was a member of Christian Bible Fellowship, VFW #927, LOOM #2, and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
Mr. Stemple enjoyed spending time with his family and calling bingo games at Washington Senior Citizens Center.
Surviving are two sons, William R. (Gloria) Stemple, Jr. and Todd W. (Sherry) Stemple; three daughters, Theresia (John) Secreti, Shirley Joy Maxwell, and Janice (James) Meyers; two brothers, Jackson LaRue Stemple of Weirton, West Virginia, and Thomas Harold Stemple of Westminster, Colorado; twelve grandchildren, Christopher and William Paradise, Marcus Stemple, Thomas King, Anthony, Michael and Katie Secreti, Josh Maxwell, Joel and Hannah Meyers, Janette Daugherty and Daniel Liggitt; four great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Shirley Glee Stemple.
Deceased are two brothers, Franklin D. Stemple, who died in infancy, and Robert Moreland Stemple; and an infant granddaughter, Jessica L. Meyers.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008, with Pastor Andrew Cobucci officiating. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion will provide military rites at the funeral home.
