31-year technician with Allegheny Power Systems
Anthony B. Spalla, 91, of Washington, died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2004, in Standish Assisted Living Home, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
He was born August 2, 1912, in Monongahela, a son of Frank L. and Antonietta Campayno Spalla.
Mr. Spalla was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington.
He was a senior electrical engineering technician for Allegheny Power Systems for 31 years.
Mr. Spalla was a 1930 graduate of Monongahela High School and attended Pennsylvania State University.
He entered the U.S. Army on December 7, 1941, and served until May 8, 1946. He was a chief warrant officer with 226th Antiaircraft Artillery, Searchlight Battalion, serving in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, and with an antiaircraft battalion in Antwerp, Belgium. He received the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
Mr. Spalla was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 and a life member of BPOE 776.
He enjoyed golfing, cooking and sports.
On June 15, 1946, he married Mildred Priddy, who survives.
Also surviving is a son, Dr. Lawrence A. Spalla of Washington and Glendale, Ariz.
Deceased are two brothers, Joseph and Lucian Spalla; and two sisters, Angelina Spalla, who died in infancy, and Frances Spalla Paoleschi.
SPALLA - Friends of Anthony B. Spalla of Washington, who died Tuesday, January 20, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 24, in Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. Entombment will follow in Garden Crypt Mausoleum of Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded at graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175
