Longtime member of Friendship Community Church
Mary Walker Schneider, 101, of Washington, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2004, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born March 20, 1902, on a farm in Washington County, a daughter of William Warren and Hester Ann Ashbrook Walker.
On August 15, 1927, she married James P. Schneider, who died October 27, 1968.
Mrs. Schneider attended school in a one-room schoolhouse and was a 1921 graduate of Union High School in Burgettstown.
She did clerical work, as well as acting as a long distance operator for Bell Telephone Co., before retiring February 1, 1958, with 35 years of service.
She was a member of Auxiliary LOOM 378 - FOE 687, Bell Telephone Company Pioneers, Bell Telephone Ten Year Club, Washington Senior Citizens and Retired Eagles Activity Club.
She was a longtime member of Friendship Community Church.
She enjoyed all kinds of sports and was a member of a bowling team for several years.
She had volunteered for Easter Seals, American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
She made her home with her great-niece, Ruthann Ruecroft.
Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased is a son, James Warren Schneider; five brothers; and nine sisters.
SCHNEIDER - Friends of Mary Walker Schneider of Washington, who died Tuesday, February 10, 2004, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 13, with the Rev. Floyd Marasco officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory.
