Donald Keenan Smith, 72, of Avella, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2005, in Washington County Health Center, Washington.
He was born April 2, 1932, in Washington, a son of Verner Farrar and Ilah Keenan Smith.
Mr. Smith was a 1950 graduate of Avella High School.
He was a retired dairy farmer who took pride in his Guernsey herd, which was the last all-Guernsey herd in Washington County. His farm received Pennsylvania Century Farm honors in 1998.
He was a member and elder of Grove United Presbyterian Church, West Middletown, where he was an organist for 30 years, and was a member of the handbell choir.
Mr. Smith enjoyed beekeeping, history, astronomy and photography.
On September 1, 1962, he married Elaine H. Dryer, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary Donald Smith and wife Mary Jo of Avella and Jonathan Lee Smith of Hermitage; two grandchildren, Thomas Keenan Smith and Molly Kathleen Smith; a sister, Darlene Blanchard of Annandale, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is an infant daughter, Kimberly Susan.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, Friday, February 18, in Grove United Presbyterian Church, West Middletown, with the Rev. Jack Emerick officiating.
