George Nicholas Georgopoulos

Painter, business agent enjoyed wood carving George Nicholas Georgopoulos, 83, of Washington, died Saturday, August 23, 2008, in Donnell House, Washington. He was born June 21, 1925, in Greece, a son of Nicholas and Paula Gavalas Georgopoulos. Mr. Georgopoulos came to America February 14, 1949. On November 13, 1955, he was united in marriage to Esther Rozakis. He was a member of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, Canonsburg. Mr. Georgopoulos was a painter and business agent and worked for several local unions including 208, 327 and 6 for a total of 35 years. He enjoyed wood carving and gardening. Surviving are a son, Nicholas Georgopoulos of Florida; a daughter, Mary Paula (Jeffrey) Wheeler of Upper St. Clair; a granddaughter, Christina Lee (James M.) Perry of Canonsburg; a sister, Kaleope Bakeloute of Greece; and several nieces and nephews in the U.S., Greece and Australia. Deceased are two brothers, John and Leo Georgopoulos; and three sisters, Kathryn Skalkos, Martisa and Arenthe Georgopoulos. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, and from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Tuesday, August 26, in All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 601 West McMurray Road, Canonsburg, with Father George L. Livanos officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Trisagion services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. The family suggests donations be made to Donnell House, c/o Washington Hospital Hospice, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301 or All Saints Greek Orthodox Church.
