Gertrude Mera Stolfer, 86, of Washington, died at 1:05 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 26, 1920, in California, PA, a daughter of Stephen and Catherine Stonice Mera.
Mrs. Stolfer had worked at the Amwell Township election polls for many years and also at the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and belonged to the Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Divine Mercy Group.
Mrs. Stolfer enjoyed her family, gardening and sewing.
On May 29, 1946, she married Rudolph Victor Stolfer, who died on July 22, 2002.
Surviving are 2 sons, Rudolph V. (Carol) Stolfer, Jr., of Washington, PA and Gregory S. (Anne) Stolfer, of Ashtabula, Ohio; a daughter, April (Robert L. Jones) Stolfer, of Wheeling, 3 brothers, Edward S. Sobansky, of Norfolk; and Elmer T. and Franklin D. Sobansky, both of Washington, PA; and 5 grandchildren, Rob and Ian Jones, Gregory, Emily and Mathew Stolfer.
Deceased are a sister, Agnes Mera and 3 brothers, Paul A. and Thomas S. Mera and Francis Sobansky.
Gertrude devoted her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. She will be remembered forever by those who were lucky to have known her.
Friends will be received on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Washington Cemetery.
