Howard "Tub" Berdine, Sr., 77, of Washington, died on Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the Donnell House, after a two-year illness. He was born on October 6, 1929, in Amity, PA, a son of Newton Arthur and Adda May Ewing Berdine.
Mr. Berdine had worked as a maintenance foreman at Washington Penn Plastics from 1958 until 1995.
Mr. Berdine was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a 30-year member of the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. On January 19, 1953, he married Estelle Horne, who survives. Also surviving are 2 sons, Howard Berdine, Jr. and Henry Berdine, both of Washington, PA.; 2 daughters, Joyce Taylor and Vicki Simms, both of Washington, PA; 3 sisters, Dorothy Rist of Houston, Texas; Frances Swihart and Hazel Thompson, both of Washington, PA; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer, Rebecca and Randy Berdine, Jr., Nicole and Michelle Taylor and Brittany Simms; and 1 great grandchild. Deceased are a daughter, Becky Berdine, a son, Randy Berdine, 6 sisters, Ruth, Jean and Margaret Berdine; Nellie Whipple and Helen Hamilton and an infant sister; and 5 brothers, Arthur James, James Arthur, Harold, Albert and Glenn Berdine.
Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Gardens, in McMurray, PA. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
