Kenneth Wilson Davis

WWII vet was member of Jefferson Avenue U.M. Church Kenneth Wilson Davis, 91, of Washington, died at 1 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005, in Washington Hospital. He had been in declining health for six weeks. He was born July 31, 1913, in Prosperity, a son of Melvin Edward and Verna Clutter Davis. Mr. Davis was a 1932 Washington High School graduate and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was employed by George K. Gray and Sons as a maintenance man in the gas well fields. He also worked for Fairmont Supply Co. for a short time. Mr. Davis was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, where he was a former trustee. He belonged to Sunset Lodge 623 F&AM and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. In August of 1940, he married Mary Amon, who died in June 1963. On October 13, 1964, he married Lilly Amon Schroeder, who died November 13, 2000. Surviving are a daughter, Jennie Davis (Philip) Hamilton of Washington; a stepdaughter, Willene (Petey) Carlson of Sewickley; a brother, Raymond Davis of Washington; a sister, Betty (Guy) Price of Washington; six grandchildren, Scott Hamilton, Wendy Snodgrass, William, Richard and Gregory Hook and Sally Jackson; and five great-grandchildren. Deceased are six brothers, Harry, Wilbur, William and James Davis and John, who died in infancy; and a sister, Mary D. Harshmann. Friends will be received from noon to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 14, with the Rev. John Hoffman and the Rev. Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Presbyterian Senior Care, 835 South Main Street, Washington, PA 15301, or Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, 160 Jefferson Avenue, Washington.
