Thomas L. Conner Jr., 59, of Washington, died Wednesday, November 30, 2005, in the emergency room of Indiana (Pa.) Hospital, due to injuries sustained in a fall in Blairsville. He was born July 24, 1946, in Claysville, a son of the late Thomas Lawson Conner Sr. and Edna Clark Conner. Mr. Conner graduated from McGuffey High School in 1964 and attended University of New Mexico. In 1965, after enlisting in the Army, he studied still photography at the U.S. Army Signal Corps School in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. Mr. Conner served in the Army Signal Corps in Vietnam and was awarded National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device. He also received commendations for marksman pistol, marksman rifle and sharpshooter carbine. In addition to Vietnam, he served in White Sands, N.M. Mr. Conner was employed as a metal roofer with L.W. Miller Roofing Co. for nine years. He enjoyed bowling, photography, wood-burning and helping with a veterans' support group. Mr. Conner was a member of Central Assembly of God Church in Houston. His wife, Candice L. Barton Conner, survives. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas L. Conner III of Lafayette, Ind., and Timothy A. Conner of Canonsburg; three grandchildren, Jacob A., Riley Joy and Ashlee Gail Conner; and a nephew, Michael L. Conner of Virginia Beach, Va. Deceased are a brother, Michael Conner, who died in infancy; and a sister, Gailena Louise Conner.
Friends will be received from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 5, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Getchell officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by James R. Hunt Post 639 of American Legion.
