Martha Leeanna Briggs Hunt, 83, of Washington, died at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005, in Washington County Health Center, Washington. She had been ill since April. She was born September 21, 1921, in Hickory, a daughter Frank and Margaret Walker Briggs. Mrs. Hunt was a member of the U.S. Army WACS during World War II. She worked at Washington Hospital in the dietary kitchen for more than 30 years. On May 27, 1947, she married Alva O. Hunt, who died November 14, 1971. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hunt was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are five brothers, Griffith, Samuel and Warren "Mac" and infants Lee and Raymond Briggs; and three sisters, Anna Mabel Wright, Margaret Miller and Edith Mae Durbin.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice or Alzheimer's Association.
