Dessie Martha Meeks, 94, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, in Washington Hospital. She was born July 24, 1911, in Littleton, W.Va., a daughter of Ross Anderson and Pearl Calvert Anderson Isiminger. Mrs. Meeks attended school in West Virginia. During World War II, she was a volunteer airplane spotter at Mt. Wheeler in North Franklin Township. Mrs. Meeks attended First Church of the Nazarene, where she was a member of the adult Sunday school class. She loved to travel. On June 25, 1928, she married Earl Wilbert Meeks, who died May 15, 1998. Surviving are two sons, Wilbur Earl Meeks of Washington and Paul Richard (Dorothy) Meeks of Marienville; five grandchildren, Rhonda Clark, Dave Meeks, Debbie Wilson, Roy Meeks and Sandy McClenathan; 11 great-grandchildren, Justin and Dillon Meeks, Bobbie and Jamie Clark, Joshua Presto, Zachary Gault, Cassie, Megan and Emily McClenathan and Kaleb and Travis Hannen; a great-great-grandson, Jacob David Hannen; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a granddaughter, Janet Meeks Hannen Bickus; a sister, Hazel Camp; and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Meeks.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, with the Rev. Larry Wiltrout officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
