Dale Cowden

October 5, 1931 — September 8, 2008

Allan Dale Cowden, 76, of Mt. Pleasant Township, died Monday, September 8, 2008, in Canonsburg General Hospital. He was born October 5, 1931, in Hickory, a son of Mark Kline Cowden and Olive Davidson Cowden. Mr. Cowden graduated from Hickory High School. He was a truck driver for Suwak Trucking for 35 years and for Dillner Transfer Co. for ten years. During his employment, he was a member of Teamsters 585 for 35 years and Teamsters 249 for ten years. Mr. Cowden was a member of Hickory United Presbyterian Church. During the Korean War, Mr. Cowden served in the Army in France and Germany. For his service, he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal – Germany and National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on November 6, 1954, with a rank of Corporal. On January 8, 1955, in Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian Church, he married Martha Jeanette Long, who survives. Also surviving are three sons and their wives, Mark and Amy Cowden and Greg and Lori Cowden, all of Hickory, and Cary and Andrea Cowden of Marianna; a daughter-in-law, Linda Progar of Bradenton, Florida; five grandchildren, Robert “B.C.” Cowden of Washington, Mark Cowden of Hickory, Gregory (Jessica) Cowden of Canonsburg, Marianne Hawkinberry of Hickory and Jeffrey Cowden of Hickory; five great-grandchildren, Jac, Emilee, Ashlin, Adalin and Chase; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Sgt. Lanos Jeffrey Cowden, who died October 15, 1976, while on active duty with the Marines; a grandson, Michael Cowden; and a brother, William Cowden. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 12th, with Rev. Doug Reinard officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hickory United Presbyterian Church, 210 Main Street, Hickory PA 15340.
