James Wayne Cole

James W. Cole, 63, of Washington, died on Sunday, May 25, 2008, in the Donnell House following an eight month illness. He was born in Washington on August 27, 1944, a son of the late Allen Thorne Cole and Betty Casterline Cole, of Washington. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps., having served in Vietnam and received the Vietnamese Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, National defense service Medal, and Sharpshooter Badge. He was a former member of Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 of the American Legion, and member of V.F.W. Post # 927, L.O.O.M.E. # 22, and the Meadowlands Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Prior to his illness, he worked as a coal miner for Consol for thirty years, last having worked at Bailey Mine. Surviving in addition to his mother are, two sons, Keith ( Cara ) Cole and Steven ( Christina ) Cole, both of Washington; two daughters, Michele ( Gary ) Baker, of Columbia, South Carolina, and Delinda ( Michael ) Mrenak of Avella; five brothers, Allen, David, Dale, and Patrick Cole, all of Washington, and Terry Cole of Carteret, New Jersey; a sister Kathleen Hoffaker of Levittsburg, Ohio; and nine grandchildren. Friends of James W. Cole, 63, of Washington, who died on Saturday, May 25, 2008, will be received on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Floyd Marasco officiating. Full military honors graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 of the American Legion. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations be made to: Donnell House, c/o Washington Hospital Auxiliary, Wilson Avenue, Washington or Meadowlands Sportsman’s Club, P.O. Box 306, Washington, PA 15301.
