Roy Lindsay Stahl

Roy L. Stahl, 84, of Washington, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2008, in the Donnell House. He had been in declining health for several months and lost a courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 11, 1923, in Washington, a son of the late Robert and Goldie May Wright Stahl. He attended Washington Schools and was confirmed in the Protestant faith. On March 4, 1943, he entered the U.S. Army, serving in WWII in the 7th Army, 69th Division, in the European Theater, in Germany and France. He was honorably discharged May 15, 1946 with the rank of Technician 5th Grade. He was a welder at National Annealing Box Company in Washington, retiring after 29 years of service. Mr. Stahl was a long-time member of the Alpine Club and enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He also enjoyed and participated in many sports including bowling, golfing and watching football. On July 23, 1953, he married Mary Nestor McIntyre, who passed away on November 26, 1998. Surviving is his daughter, Lisa (Tim) Salsberry and many nieces and nephews. Deceased in addition to his wife and parents are five brothers, Ross, Robert, William, Harry and Samuel; and four sisters, Bessie, Loueva Raber, Laura Doman and Anna Myers. He was the last of his immediate family. He will be sadly missed by his cat, Mamie, who was his faithful companion. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 31, 2008, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Donnell House, c/o Hospice Care of The Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
