Lloyd Wayne Schmidt

October 9, 1959 — July 15, 2009

Lloyd Wayne Schmidt, 49, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, in his residence, following a one-year illness. He was born October 9, 1959, in Washington, a son of Duane and Frances Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt was a volunteer for the Salvation Army and faithfully gave his time and efforts to serve Thanksgiving dinners and to “ring the bell” at Christmas. Mr. Schmidt’s photograph with the caption “Santa on Bike” was in a back issue of the Observer-Reporter. He made it to work as Santa in the worst of weather conditions. He also was Santa at some local senior nursing homes, trying to make their Christmas special. Mr. Schmidt worked the Washington County Fair and the Immaculate Conception Church festival. Mr. Schmidt was always a kind, cheery person. He always had a joke to tell or something to make you smile. He had his own way of doing things and you knew you could count on him to lend a helping hand. Friends felt privileged to have known this man, their true friend. He will always be remembered and greatly missed. He enjoyed visiting Billy’s and Fifty Yard Line, where he enjoyed singing Karaoke with Jerry. Mr. Schmidt did advertising for Liberty Tax Service. On October 9, 2004, he married Mary Lou Allen who survives. Also surviving are his “Adopted Family”, Esther Bedillion and Janice Thomas. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2009, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
