Registered nurse at Jessop, Washington Steel Mary Ferrell Houser, 85, of Kunkletown, formerly of Washington, died at 10 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2004, in Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home, Stroudsburg. She was born October 28, 1918, in West Middletown, a daughter of John L. and Nellie Brownlee Ferrell. Mrs. Houser was a member of Third United Presbyterian Church in Washington. She was a registered nurse who had done private duty and served as an industrial nurse at Jessop Steel and Washington Steel. Mrs. Houser was a 1937 graduate of East Washington High School and a 1940 graduate of Washington Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of Washington Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. On April 24, 1947, in Washington, she married Kurtz L. Houser Jr., who died May 7, 2003. Surviving are a daughter, Janet H. Skinner of Kunkletown; a brother, John L. Ferrell of Hickory; a sister, Janet F. McKee of Washington; two granddaughters, Beth Anne Skinner and Meredith S. Regina; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Donald L. and Howard V. Ferrell; and an infant son, Kurtz Houser III. HOUSER - Friends of Mary Ferrell Houser of Kunkletown, formerly of Washington, who died Friday, January 23, 2004, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, with the Rev. Lesley I. Shoup officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Third United Presbyterian Church in Washington or Washington Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship Fund.
