World War II veteran was truck driver
Joseph J. Joscsak Jr., 82, of Washington, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born July 29, 1921, in Connellsville, a son of Joseph John Sr. and Mary Cole Joscsak.
Mr. Joscsak was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and was a truck driver with Suwak Trucking for more than 40 years.
He was a lifetime member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
Mr. Joscsak enjoyed walking at the mall, football and baseball.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy at Newport, R.I., and on the USS Wyoming, USS Susan B. Anthony and USS Teton. He received the Victory Medal, Commendation Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Pacific-Asiatic Ribbon with one star and European-African Ribbon.
On March 20, 1948, he married to Elizabeth Ellen Higgins, who died September 12, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Joseph J. Joscsak III of Washington; two daughters, Toni Joscsak of Washington and Mary Allen of Scenery Hill; four grandchildren, Christy Miller, Ashley Holub, Samantha Joscsak and Joseph J. Joscsak IV; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, James, Louis, Paul and Ernie Joscsak; and three sisters, Irene Suwak, Margaret Mongell and Elizabeth Joscsak.
