M. Jay Walker, 86, of Hickory, died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003, in Washington Hospital, following a one-year illness.
He was born June 23, 1917, in Ruff Creek, a son of Edward Ross and Lydia Ella Kughn Walker.
Mr. Walker was a member of Hickory United Presbyterian Church.
He owned and operated Walker Repair Service for 30 years and was employed by the Farm Bureau for 25 years.
Mr. Walker served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korean War. During World War II, he trained Japanese-Americans for European service.
He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175; one of the founding members of South Strabane Fire Department No. 1, where he served as chief for 19 years; and a member of Hickory Fire Department.
He enjoyed Pittsburgh sports and deer hunting.
On September 13, 1975, he married Ida Mae Raab, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Duane Walker and Don Reed, both of Hickory; two daughters, Donna Jean Boswell of Washington and Mary Elizabeth Stolze of Cross Creek; a sister, Dorotha Frances Mooney of Nineveh; nine grandchildren, Shawn, Nicole and Erin Walker, Richard and Kristi Boswell, Cheryl Semerod, Sherri Kumer, Don Reed Jr. and Brian Stolze; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Carroll, James, David and Edward Walker; and a sister, Helen Eisiminger.
WALKER - Friends of M. Jay Walker of Hickory, who died Tuesday, December 30, 2003, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and noon until 1:30 p.m., the hour of service, Saturday, January 3, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, with the Rev. R. Douglas Reinard officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Hickory. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175.
