Samuel T. Dille, 88, of Washington, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, following a four-year illness..
He was born June 29, 1920, in Prosperity, a son of Harley P. and Mildred Mae Cole Dille.
Mr. Dille was a 1939 graduate of Morris Township High School. During World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served in the United States Air Force and held the rank of Technical Sergeant when discharged.
Mr. Dille was employed with the United States Post Office as a rural carrier for 31 years, retiring December 26, 1980, from the Prosperity Post Office. He then became a realtor for 14 years, retiring in December 1997.
Mr. Dille was a member and former elder of Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church in Prosperity and an associate member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington.
He was a life member and last surviving founding member of Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Dille was also a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, Elks Lodge 776, Pythagoras Lodge #659 F & AM, Dothan, Alabama; Syria Temple and past president of Caravan #2, Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh, Past Grand Tall Cedar of Tall Cedar of Lebanon #149, and Past Worthy Patron of Martha V. Paul Chapter #404 Order of the Eastern Star.
Mr. Dille volunteered every Friday at the Washington Hospital for many years.
On April 4, 1943, he married Betty Cole, who died November 11, 2004.
Surviving are two grandsons, Christopher P. (Kim) Dille of Cecil and Brian K. Dille of Waynesburg; a great granddaughter, Shannen Renee Dille; four great-grandsons, Chad Thomas, Keith Richard, Tyler John and Logan Paul Dille; and four brothers, George Dille of Washington, Richard Dille of Inwood, West Virginia, and Charles Dille and Eli Dille, both of Prosperity.
Deceased are his son, Samuel P. Dille, who died October 12, 2006; a sister, Arna Mae “Sissy” Dille; and two brothers, Stewart A. Dille and James Dille.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 A.m. Thursday, July 24th, with Rev. Dr. Susan VandeKappelle officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. Martha V. Paul Chapter 404 O.E.S. will hold services at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
