Albert John Flis, 82, of Washington, died at 10:30 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2005, in his home. He had been ill since August. He was born February 4, 1923, in Canonsburg, a son of John and Helen Elizabeth Rybacki Flis. Mr. Flis was a member of Miraculous Medal Church in Meadowlands. He served in the Army during World War II in the Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arne, Northern Appennines, and PO Valley Campaigns, and received the Good Conduct Medal, and European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four Bronze Stars. Mr. Flis was employed by Washington Steel as a foreman for thirty-six years. He was one of the founders of the T.S. Fitch Scholarship Fund. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and slot machines. He was a member of the Elks and former member of the Claysville American Legion. On September 23, 1945, he married Mary Louise Comito, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Kathy Keranko, wife of the late Richard Keranko, Rosemary Tarr, (Bill), and Alison Chunko, (Dan), all of Washington, Eleanor Van Lenten, (John), of Kentucky, and Kelly Flis, of Washington; a sister, Sister Mary Dulcia, of Coraopolis, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Friends of Albert John Flis, of Washington, who died Monday, March 28, 2005, will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005, in Miraculous Medal Church, Meadowlands, with the Rev. John Oâ€쳌Shea, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Linton Scott, Post 175, American Legion.
