Harry A. “Dutch” Miller, Jr., 81, of Washington, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, in Washington County Health Center. He had been in declining health.
He was born November 29, 1926, in Lawrence (Hill Station), a son of Harry A. Miller, Sr. and Anna Thompson Miller.
On February 28, 1944, he entered the U.S. Navy, receiving the Pacific Theater Ribbon, with Three Stars, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon, with Two Stars. He was honorably discharged May 12, 1946.
Mr. Miller was employed at Washington Hospital in the Housekeeping Department for thirty years.
Mr. Miller was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion, where he served as a past post commander and member of the honor guard. He enjoyed walking, playing dartball and had helped with Washington Youth Baseball.
On April 28, 1951, he married Norma Jean Bails, who died July 1, 1988. His second wife, Betty Nestor Deyell, whom he married November 11, 1989, died May 19, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Allen W. Miller, and daughter, Nancy J. Miller, both of Washington; a brother, Earl Miller, of Charleroi; four sisters, Ruth Wagner, of Bridgeville, Phyllis Hendricks, of McMurray, Elsie Richards, of Washington, and Sis Scott, of Long Beach, CA; three grandchildren, Brandon, Charles and Amber Miller; two great grandchildren, Savanah and Haley Ann.
Deceased are two brothers, Ralph and Jake Miller.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Friday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 American Legion.
