Gwendolyn Romaine Hughes Fulton, 76, of Washington, formerly of Mt. Vernon, IL, died Thursday, March 6, 2008, in the Donnell House, after having been in declining health the last two years.
She was born in Washington, on December 14, 1931, a daughter of Raymond and Beatrice Weimer Hughes and had attended Washington Schools.
Prior to moving to Mt. Vernon, she had worked at both Hazel Atlas # 1 and Metro Glass for a total of fifteen years. While in Mt. Vernon, she has sold Real Estate for about ten years.
On February 21, 1953, she married David R. Fulton, who died in November of 1994.
Upon returning to Washington, she attended the Friendship Community Church for many years and the joy of her life had been teaching one-on-one Bible Study.
She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bingo, mini golf, and traveling with her family.
Surviving are a son, Daniel ( Peg ) Mitchell of Houston; a step-daughter, Kathy ( Dennis ) Jones of Orlando, Florida; one brother, Herky Hughes of Washington; four grandchildren, Sherry ( Charles ) Pinto, Daniel Mitchell, Jr., Amanda Mitchell, and Carie Milligan, as well as three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Fulton is preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Knox and two brothers, Raymond and Donald Hughes.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 7:00 PM in the Friendship Community Church, 1090 Weirich Avenue, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will be private in the Washington Cemetery.
