PENNDOT road foreman was WWII veteran. Ira Wayne Reed Jr., 85, of Washington, died Monday, March 21, 2005, following a lengthy illness. He was born November 25, 1919, in Brownsville, a son of Ira Wayne Sr. and Blanche Evans Reed. Mr. Reed attended Washington High School and Penn Commercial. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Western Pacific and earned a Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon and Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon. Mr. Reed was a road foreman for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and also a private building contractor. He was a member of Church of the Covenant and Sunset Lodge 623 F&AM. Mr. Reed enjoyed woodworking and playing pool, cards and golf. On October 24, 1941, he married Dora May Kinnan, who died October 10, 2003. Surviving are a son, Ira Wayne Reed III of Volant; a daughter, Sandra Reed Cincinnati of Washington; a brother, Merle W. Reed Sr. of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Evelyn Whitehurst of Columbus and Mona Lea Megyesy of Washington; five grandchildren, Kenny, Michael and Robin Reed and Jay and David Cincinnati; three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Deceased are two brothers, William Voigt Reed and Clarence Miller; five sisters, Gwendola Weinstein, Rosamond Fischer, Larama Miller Schultz, Lucille Dunn and Genevieve Dale Reed; and a grandson, James Reed Cincinnati. At the request of the deceased, services will be private and at the family's convenience, with the Rev. Ben Scott officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Arrangements are being handled by William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., Washington. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
