Ernest Boyd

Worked for Washington Steel in maintenance department. Ernest Richard Boyd, 69, of Washington, died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Washington Hospital, after a three-year illness. He was born September 17, 1935, in Pittsburgh, a son of Ernest James and Gertrude Margaret Bedell Boyd. Mr. Boyd worked at Washington Steel in the maintenance department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, target shooting, woodworking and pitching horseshoes. On November 21, 1955, he married Bette Lea Fonner, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Richard Boyd of Washington, John (Vera) Boyd of Hardy, Va., Mark Alan (Anne) Boyd of Valley Grove, W.Va., and Scott Andrew (Melissa) Boyd of Avella; a daughter, Sherrie Lea (Samuel) McConn of Sauquoit, N.Y.; seven brothers, Robert Boyd of Wayne, Mich., William Boyd of Kayuga, N.Y., Larry Boyd of Claysville, Donald Boyd of Eighty-Four (Ontario), Norman Boyd of Washington, Thomas Boyd of Ohio and Charles Boyd of Washington; a sister, Susan Hammond of Washington; six grandchildren, Joy Lynn McConn Roberts, Tiffany Sue McConn Salsbury, Ashlee Michelle Boyd, Jenni Rae Boyd, Christopher Andrew Boyd and Bradley Ernest Boyd; and two great-grandchildren, Paige Marie Roberts and Logan Andrew Roberts. Deceased is a grandson, Mark Alan Boyd II. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, with the Rev. Alan Jeffries officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. A reception at First Baptist Church, College at Wheeling streets, Washington, will be held following burial.
