Richard Floyd Poland, Jr., 54, of Washington, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in Donnell House.
He was born October 23, 1953, in Washington, a son of Richard Floyd Poland, Sr. and Norma Jean Lang Poland.
Mr. Poland was a 1971 graduate of Trinity High School and served in the United States Army. He received his LPN training at Western Area Career and Technical Center and worked as an LPN at Manor Care in McMurray.
He loved coaching kids throughout his 27-year affiliation with Washington Youth Baseball. Mr. Poland, along with friend Tim Gorby, coached Washington Pinto Teams to World Series Titles, first in 1996 and again in 1999. In 2005, he managed the Washington team in the Pony League World Series.
Mr. Poland loved spending time with his family.
On April 23, 1988, he married Susan Rae Williams, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Matthew Brian Poland of Washington, Richard Floyd (Christine) Poland, III, of Monongahela, Bradley B. Poland and Eric Evan Poland, both of Washington; two brothers, Danny L. (Melinda) Poland and Jeffrey D. (Sharon) Poland, both of Washington; one sister, Marsha Ann (Jerry) Martinelli of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Kylie Marie Poland, Sophia Lynn Poland and Luke Richard Poland; a nephew, Jarod Richard Williams, with whom he was especially close; 13 nephews; and two nieces.
Deceased is a nephew, Danny L. Poland.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and Noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. .
