James Jay Ullom, Sr., 78, of Washington, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, in his home, following an eight-year illness.
He was born April 23, 1930, in Chartiers Township, a son of Harry Kibe, Sr. and Alice Grimes Ullom.
On March 31, 1948, he entered the U.S. Navy, and served as a Ship's Serviceman Seaman, aboard the USS Krishna. He received an honorable discharge on February 18, 1953.
Mr. Ullom was employed as a Structural Iron Worker, with Pittsburgh Local #3, for thirty-five years.
Mr. Ullom was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Washington Lodge #164, F&AM, Valley of Pittsburgh Consistory, and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
On November 17, 1951, he married Marie Cass, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Eric M. (Jennifer A.) Ullom and James Jay Ullom, Jr., both of Washington; a daughter, Geraldine Ullom Hergert, of Claysville; two sisters, Jean M. Dodd, of Canonsburg, and Shirley A. (Alphonse) Gizoni, of Washington; five grandchildren, Dr. Stacie Wells, Lauren Beth Hergert, Gwendolyn S. Ullom, Max Eric Ullom and Paige Nicole Ullom; and a great grandson, Jakob Wells.
Deceased are five brothers, William C., Harry K., Jr., George R., Thomas R. and Ova Ullom; and four sisters, Betty J. Bower, Frances E. Dodd, Geraldine Russell, and Ruth E. Roach.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2008. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m., at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. The family suggests memorial contributions to Albert Gallatin Hospice, 275 Meadowlands Boulevard, Washington, PA 15301.
