Janet Marlene Phillips Swalin, 73, of Canonsburg, died Monday, August 18, 2008, in her residence. She was born May 19, 1935, in Washington, a daughter of Joseph Franklin and Eva Mae Newell Phillips. Mrs. Swalin had been employed as a packer at Brockway Glass, at RCA in Arden, and was a former co-owner of the Cozy Corner Bar. She enjoyed dancing and being with her dog, Cassy. Mrs. Swalin was a member of L.O.O.M. On January 4, 1995, she married Elmer Charles Swalin, who survives. Also surviving are four children, Debby (David) Frye of Beallsville, Dan (Kathy) Hull of Greensboro, Tim (Debbie) Sliman of Houston, and Tracie Sliman of Canonsburg; three step sons, Charles (Melinda) Swalin of Monongahela, Joseph Swalin of Kentucky and Tim (Michelle) Swalin of Virginia; two brothers, Richard (Margie) Phillips of Elizabethtown and Earl (Linda) Phillips of Washington; three sisters, Jackie Jackson, Marie (Fred) Allen and Marcia Chambers, all of Washington; five grandchildren, Tammy, Pam, Jesse, Jason and Julie; four step grandchildren, Rachael, Michelle, J.C., Alecia and Crystal; one great-grandson, Ryan; two step great-grandchildren, Anthony and Preston; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many dear friends. Arrangements are private and will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Washington Cemetery.
