Manuel "Poncho" Gomez Sr., 64, of Washington, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2005, in his home. He was born July 19, 1941, in Luzerne Township, Fayette County, a son of the late Jose and Julia Lutz Gomez. Mr. Gomez was a graduate of Trinity High School and enjoyed being a handyman. He was a laborer for McGraw-Edison and Robinson Pipe Cleaning Co. In 1966, in Mexico City, Mexico, he married Sandra Garrett, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Stacey and Manuel Jr. Gomez, and a daughter, Tracey Gomez Newsome, all of Washington; three brothers, Jose Gomez of Prosperity and Frank Gomez and Mike Smith, both of Washington; four sisters, Julie Smith and Dianne Smith, both of Ohio, Marlene Smith of Washington and Debbie Smith Walker of Moundsville, W.Va.; and a granddaughter, Melissa Nicolle Gomez. Deceased are an infant son, Joseph Robert Gomez; and a brother, Steven Smith.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., the hour of service, Thursday, December 15, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating.
