Ruth Morris Devenney

Ruth Morris Devenney, 89, of Washington, died Monday, August 18, 2008, in Southmont Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington. She was born August 20, 1918, in Washington, a daughter of Paul and Zelma Scott Morris. Mrs. Devenney was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Aid Society, was a former Elder and church treasurer, and always attended the Mildred Irwin Sunday School Class. She was also a member of AARP, the Washington Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered at Thomas Campbell Apartments. Mrs. Devenney was a homemaker and at one time worked summers at Hazel Atlas #2. On October 23, 1937, she married William Henry Devenney, who died June 27, 1980. Surviving are three sons, Charles W. (Mary Ann) Devenney, and John P. (Nancy) Devenney, all of Washington; and George R. (Carol) Devenney, of North East, PA; and seven grandchildren, Lori Naser, Karen Thomas, Steven, John P., Jr., Jay, Jeffrey, Preston, and Brent Devenney; and thirteen great grandchildren. Deceased is a brother, Harry S. Morris. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd, 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 21, 2008, with the Rev. Dr. Susan VandeKappelle and Pastor Gary Gibson, co-officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to Fourth Presbyterian Church, 1000 Jefferson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, or a charity of one’s choice.
